Paul -

Yes, exactly: I extracted the figure (cut her out from the background) and saved as PNG. JPG's sometimes work in Vue, but the alpha channel is sometimes not working properly with JPGs.

Most digital painters (not sure of the percentage, but I'd bet it's 3 out of 4) use Photoshop exclusively. Adobe may be planning to add better brushes to Photoshop (that's the rumor). If so, Painter may become obsolete. Just my opinion. It's buggy and much too expensive. Most artists learn Photoshop and decide they've had it with steep learning curves. They climb that mountain and stay put! And who can blame them? Photoshop is the basic tool of computer art. You need to know how to use it. Other tools are optional, and must give us a good reason for spending time to learn them and money to buy them. I find Painter indispensable for the work I do, but most do not. Hope that helps. Thanks for commenting, and for the kind words!

PS - Check out this video by Russell Brown, showing new brush tech coming from Adobe. Looks like the clock is ticking, Corel!

In this tut you talk about creating the the image in the first tut (I created a PNG file containing our subject against a transparent background.) Are you saying to extract your image and save it as a png? in photoshop first?
I wanted to add that these tuts have been extremely helpful, do you see photoshop over taking the function that painter can do? its getting expensive to keep up with all the software.
Thanks again.
