I thought you might like to know that part of your info about Painter's Mosaic tile feature is incorrect. You are correct that ifthe "done" button is clicked this will close the Make Mosaic dialog. However, as long as you don't close your image, you can return to Canvas>Make Mosaic and continue working on the Mosaic until it's complete. The dialog has been designed so you can go in and out of it. In addition to changing grout color you can also change the color of individual tiles as long as the Clone Color button on the Colors palette is not depressed. Nice blog.
