Chad -
Thanks for stopping by. I checked out your site, and it's very well done! Thanks to your inspiration I may just get my first ebook finished one of these days. : )
In your intro video to coloring, I notice you seem to use only the Default layer blend mode (composite mode, in Painter-speak). Have you tried Color or Colorize etc.? I use them for colorizing black and white photos.

Painter is my all time favorite application to use for digital painting. I love to create cartoons onto the computer and love the way painter flows as far as production.

Its funny because I have tried to push myself to use Photoshop just because it is one of the big dogs. Painter is just so simple when it comes to painting. I am the creator of cartoonpaint.com and have some video tutorials on how I go about my process using Painter.

Thanks for you comments! I'm not surprised to see Odwin has a vocal fan base! He's definitely an artist to watch.

You're a mindreader, Bob! I'm a huge fan of Odwin's work, and have been wondering a lot lately about his particular techniques.

Thank you, Odwin, for sharing so much of how you do what you do. I must admit that I'm stunned to hear that you're having trouble getting commissions. You are without a doubt one of the best digital painters anywhere, and you should be turning away work, not looking for it!

This is a reminder to us all that marketing skills are a vital part of making a living as an artist. But for those for whom this is difficult if not impossible, are there artists' agents (in Europe, here in North America, and elsewhere) who handle digital art? Surely it would be worth paying a commission to them for their specialized skills if that would better one's chances of commercial success.

Here's to a prosperous future as a portraitist, Odwin. And my thanks to Bob, not only for this terrific article, but for all your efforts to educate and inspire our community.
