Video Tutorial: Beginning Portrait Painting with Corel Painter, Part 5
May 25th, 2010 | Published in Corel Painter, Featured, Tutorials, Video | 3 Comments

In the last video of the series, we finish up by painting the eyes.
In Part 5 of this beginning series, we finish up with the eyes. This video is the longest of the series, as there’s a lot to cover.
This video is based on a previous article (here) from a year or two ago. You might want to read through it first, then watch the video. I use layers to paint the eyes, since it makes it easy to change each part that way. You can erase the iris, for example, without touching any other part of the eye. So this video is an intro to layers in Painter, as well.
The e-book, which is going to be called “Corel Painter Weekend Workshop – Digital Painting for Beginners,” is coming along nicely. It should only take another month or two at this rate! Books are a lot of work, I’m finding. I will be including videos with the chapters, so it’s important I get the video stuff right. If you have any problems with the videos or suggestions, please leave a comment. As always, thanks for reading.

Bob,
Superb video on painting eyes. There are a lot of different methods taught on eye painting when using Painter or Photoshop, and I find yours to be among the best; perhaps even the finest, as your method is the first I’ve found that uses the layers method for eyes, and uses it intelligently.
I’m looking forward to the release of your e-book, and wishing you great success. If your project is reasonably profitable, I think many of us would like detailed e-books on subjects like watercolor or Impressionistic portraits.

Allan –
Thanks very much! This method works well, and though adding the layers may seem time-consuming, you quickly get used to working this way.
Thanks also for the comments on the book, and letting me know what sort of subjects you’d be interested in down the road. That’s very helpful!
